Job Summary

Essential Functions

  • Designs, develops, implements and maintains moderately complex databases systems including MS SQL server, AWS RDS, NoSQL or similar database technology

  • Reviews database usage & provides analysis to management for system improvements and enhancements

  • Work on indexing, replicating and performing disaster recovery services across multiple AWS regions

  • Tunes and optimizes database performance

  • Support production priority issues, troubleshoots and resolves database problems, escalating more complex issues to senior level DBAs

  • Adapt database and related software to ensure a working interface and effective performance between applications software, systems software, and installed hardware.

  • Implements security according to defined standards

  • Required to perform duties outside of normal work hours based on business needs

  • Code review database changes to ensure minimal risk of database code deployment

  • Assist Sr. DBAs by choosing the best course of action by establishing decision criteria and evaluating alternatives.

  • Acts and responds quickly to stated business, people or stakeholder challenges.

  • Ensures optimal database performance and availability.

  • Resolve incident tickets in timely manner and seek for long term solution to prevent similar issues from occurring. 

  • Improving data quality through data analysis, monitoring, gap analyses, and working with the teams to provide solutions and resolve errors.

  • Developing, implementing, maintaining, and following change control and testing processes for modifications to databases.

  • Establishing backup and recovery or replication plans to minimize data loss and system downtime.

  • Maintaining data integrity and security (manage roles and permissions of database users).

  • Reviewing the security logs from the SQL Server Error Logs to determine if you had a breach or a violation in one of your policies

Technical Skills:

  • Structured Query Language (SQL), e.g. SQL/PSM, Transact-SQL queries, writes SQL scripts in SQL Server 2000/2005/ 2012/ 2016, etc.

  • Experience working with cloud-based database technologies from AWS and Azure (RDS, Aurora, etc)

  • Solid knowledge of several database management systems to install, upgrade, configure, design, develop, implement, secure, tune, monitor and maintain as required

  • Solid knowledge of database design to produce sound logical and physical data models

  • Experience with varied forms of data design, such as online transaction processing, online analytical processing, data warehousing, operational data stores, and decision support systems

  • Knowledge of scripting and programming languages to support automation tasks a plus

  • Familiar working in an agile DevOps environment a plus

  • 3-5 years of directly related experience
