<strong>Spring Branch Independent School District<br><br></strong><strong>Job Description<br><br></strong><em><strong>Payroll Specialist, Financial Services<br><br></strong></em><strong>Job Title:</strong><strong>Payroll Specialist, Financial Services</strong><strong>Reports To:</strong>Payroll Manager<strong>Classification:</strong>Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant)<strong>Wage/Hour Status:</strong>Non-exempt<strong>Days:</strong>230<strong>Salary:</strong>See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 209<strong>Contract:</strong>None<strong>Date Revised:</strong>5/21/2026<strong>Primary Purpose:</strong>Responsible for assisting in processing payroll in accordance with district policies and procedures; assisting district staff on the operations of automated time keeping and payroll financial systems; processing requests for employee information for employees and outside agencies and maintaining employee files in an automated payroll system.<strong>Qualifications/Skills:<br><br></strong><strong>Education/Certification<br><br></strong><ul><li>High School Diploma or equivalent.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Special Knowledge/Skills<br><br></strong><ul><li>Minimum Assessment Standard: Broad knowledge of MS Word and broad knowledge of MS Excel.</li><li>Strong analytical and problem solving skills.</li><li>Strong organizational skills.</li><li>Highly effective communication skills.</li><li>Strong interpersonal skills.</li><li>Ability to use personal computer, computer software, and 10-key calculator/adding machine.</li><li>Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.</li><li>Strong attention to detail.</li><li>Ability to work independently.</li><li>Fluent in English (Speaking and writing).</li><li>Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>Two (2) years payroll experience or educational equivalent preferred.</li><li>Automated time reporting experience preferred or equivalent.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Major Duties and<br><br></strong><strong>Responsibilities<br><br></strong><strong>Payroll Accounting:<br><br></strong><ul><li>Accurately calculate hourly and annualized semi-monthly payroll in an automated computer system.</li><li>Accurately calculate and process pay for employees on medical/personal leave.</li><li>Calculate, update, and maintain employee accrued leave banks.</li><li>Calculate final pay for employee resignations, retirements, and terminations.</li><li>Maintain employee W4 and direct deposit information.</li><li>Assist with the implementation, maintenance, and training on the Payroll Financial and Time Keeping systems.</li><li>Assist with balancing and verifying pay, accrual leave days, deductions, and vendor payments.</li><li>Maintain working knowledge of SBISD policies and procedures.</li><li>Participate in cross-training of all payroll and benefit functions including terminations, leaves, salary adjustments, and website controls.</li><li>Assist employees with payroll questions and issues.</li><li>Works closely to resolve payroll issues with other departments, such as Human Resources, Benefits, Workers Compensation, and Technology Services.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Other<br><br></strong><ul><li>Perform other duties as assigned.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Supervisory<br><br></strong><strong>Responsibilities:</strong>None<strong>Equipment Used:</strong>Computer and various office equipment.<strong>Working Conditions:<br><br></strong><strong>Mental Demands<br><br></strong><ul><li>Maintain emotional control under stress.</li><li>Work with frequent interruptions.</li><li>Work during periods of district closures when necessary.</li><li>This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Physical Demands<br><br></strong><ul><li>Repetitive hand motions.</li><li>Prolonged use of the computer.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Application Procedure:</strong>Click Apply then Login.
