ORUD Natural Gas is seeking a skilled Pipeline Construction & Maintenance Worker who takes pride in operating equipment safely and performing high-quality underground utility work.

This role supports the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas mains, service lines, valves, and underground infrastructure that serve the Oak Ridge and Kingston communities.

This is a long-term utility career opportunity — not a temporary construction position.

Position Summary

The Pipeline Construction & Maintenance Worker serves as a crewmember responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas mains, service lines, valves, and related piping systems.

This position requires the knowledge and ability to:

  • Lay pipe and install gas mains and service lines
  • Make pipe connections and install repair clamps
  • Operate heavy equipment safely around underground utilities
  • Assist with installation and repair of natural gas infrastructure

You will work with well-maintained equipment that is regularly serviced to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, or replace natural gas lines and related infrastructure
  • Drill beneath concrete or pavement when required
  • Locate underground utilities and work safely around existing infrastructure
  • Load tools and equipment onto service vehicles for field operations
  • Operate heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, trenchers, dump trucks, and air compressors
  • Dig trenches and excavate for gas main and service line installation
  • Drive dump trucks to haul dirt, rock, and materials to and from job sites
  • Safely use hand tools to access and work on lines
  • Use tapping machines to tap gas mains and connect piping

Valve Maintenance

  • Greasing and turning valves
  • Flushing valve systems
  • Replacing valve stems
  • Cleaning and maintaining valves

Equipment & Site Maintenance

  • Clean and maintain trucks and equipment regularly
  • Assist with equipment maintenance including checking oil, fluid levels, gauges, and tires
  • Restore landscaping and replace topsoil following work completion

Qualifications

  • Experience in Heavy equipment operation
  • Ability to acquire a Class A CDL
  • Valid driver’s license with no revocations or suspensions within the past 24 months
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Preferred Experience

  • Natural gas distribution work
  • Pipeline construction
  • Underground utilities (gas, water, sewer)
  • Trenching and excavation around live utilities
  • Utility locating or underground infrastructure work

Experienced operators from pipeline, excavation, grading, or underground utility construction are strongly encouraged to apply.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time – 40 hours per week
  • Overtime opportunities available
  • On-call rotation may apply

Due to on-call responsibilities, residence within 20 miles of central Oak Ridge is preferred.
