Under general supervision, ensures that all referrals from Primary Care Physicians are handled according to practice and payer guidelines and that patients receive appropriate support in obtaining needed services. Also ensures that referral and pre-authorization activities are undertaken in order to provide maximum patient and provider satisfaction and maximum reimbursement. Schedules patients for follow up appointments as a part of the checkout process. This role also has the responsibility of checking in patients that have appointments with the practice.<br><br><strong>Department Essential Functions<br><br></strong><ul><li>Check in and check out. Scheduling appointments with accuracy and completeness. Collect co-pays that are due at time of service.</li><li>Pre-registration checks to ensure insurance is verified and applicable referrals are available</li><li>Clerical duties, faxing, EVS, Insurance verification and prior auth when needed</li><li>Patient satisfaction, exceptional front desk service. Provide welcoming, courteous and professional experience for all patients during check in and check out.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Essential Functions<br><br></strong><ul><li>Accepts and enters referrals into database. Provides pre-admission and financial counseling, as needed.</li><li>Performs referral activities for patients including pre-registering patients during intake process. Contacts referral sources to obtain demographic and insurance data.</li><li>Inputs and updates all pertinent demographic and financial data. Tracks patient compliance with referral appointment. Performs clerical tasks related to the maintenance of all patient medical records (including scanning records and processing medical records).</li><li>Performs clerical tasks related to the input and maintenance of all patient medical records (including scanning records and processing medical releases).</li><li>Accepts and enters referrals into database. Performs clerical tasks related to the maintenance of all patient medical records (including scanning records and processing medical records).</li><li>Performs clerical tasks related to the input and maintenance of all patient medical records (including scanning records and processing medical releases).<br><br></li></ul><strong>EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE<br><br></strong><ul><li> High school diploma or general education degree.</li><li> Two years related medical office experience.</li><li> Accurate data entry skills.</li><li> Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and preauthorization.</li><li> Knowledge of IDX or similar computerized billing system.</li><li> Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding.</li><li> General understanding of back-office operations.</li><li> Strong customer service skills.</li><li> PC proficiency. </li><li> Medical terminology preferred<br><br></li></ul>Total Rewards<br><br>The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
